Dawn of Adventure
A world is an interesting thing, and this is one like many others. Feudal Kingdoms border Merchant Republics. Pocket Princedoms engage in a deadly political dance with mighty Empires. But that is not your business. Not anymore. Whatever your past life may have been, you are now adventurers. Good and evil rarely matter to your kind, only who offers the largest purse, though there have been some who have fancied themselves "champions of the people", "dark lords," or other such nonsense. Call yourselves whatever you want. All I know is that there are monsters to kill, and there are people willing to pay a pretty penny to have it done.
